Silence is The Best Medicine

A woman named Rajni used to get very angry due to which there was always conflict in her family. There was no peace in her home. She felt that her life was being wasted. No one would like to talk her.

She was very much sad and troubled by this problem! One day a sage came to her house to beg for alms. The woman told her problem to the sage. Then the sage gave the woman some folded papers as a form of medicine. He said that whenever she gets angry, she has to put one folded paper in her mouth and do not speak for 10-15 minutes, then throw it outside.  If she will not follow time then this medicine will not work. The woman did the same.

Whenever she got angry, she would put that medicine in her mouth and did not speak for 10-15 minutes. Over the time, within a few days her anger was completely controlled. The sage then came to that woman’s house. The woman fell at his feet and thanked him and said “I am grateful to you that you gave me such a good medicine that my anger ended.”

The sage said, “This is not a medicine but an ash folded in a paper.” Then the woman said, “But my anger has gone away forever, what is the reason for this if this is not a medicine?”

Then the sage told that anger destroys a human being, so we should avoid it. There is no method for it but silence is a cure. Silence can control his anger in human life. Whenever we get angry, we should become silent. This way anger ends automatically.

When I gave you medicine, but you took it as a medicine. So you did not speak after taking it. This way your anger gradually ended.

Silence for some time can stop anger and fight. Silence is a quality of a man. Silent man can take wise decision during problem. Silence can avoid many disastrous conclusions due to fight. It is present in every human.

Moral of the story: The problem is not as big as we take it. Silence can solve many issues in the life. Especially in anger.

There is a Big Power in the Faith

A storyteller lived in a village. His livelihood was preaching stories. A milkmaid used to come from a far off place to give him milk. She used to be late every day because of a river on the way. One day the storyteller got angry and asked her why she comes so late every day.

The milkmaid told him that the boat comes late because of crossing the river. She has to wait there for a long time. That is why she gets late.

One day the storyteller was giving a sermon that there is a lot of power in the name of God. A man can cross the ocean of the world by taking its name. The milkmaid liked the idea.

From the next day onwards, it started coming early every day to deliver milk. The storyteller kept watching for several days. He had a question in his mind that how did it come so early now. One day again he asked that now it has started coming early. He asked that did she not buy any boat of her own.

The milkmaid said that she is very poor. It is difficult to run the household by selling milk. Buying a boat is not within her reach. Then the storyteller asked that how does it come so early. There is no other way to cross the river in this area.

The milkmaid said that the method you told me is helping me. Storyteller was surprised and asked which method did I tell you?

The milkmaid said that you said that a man can cross the ocean by taking the name of God. Storyteller said yes but what is the connection of this with your crossing the river?

The milkmaid said that she also crosses the river by taking the name of God. storyteller said did you cross the river? She said yes. He did not believe what the milkmaid said. They were very surprised. They asked the cowherd to cross the river in front of them. The cowherd started walking across the river taking the name of God. The narrator was surprised.

Moral of the story: There is such power in faith that it makes even impossible tasks possible. Faith is a big thing that can turn iron into gold. A man can get success and everything in life with Faith in God.

What is Necessary to Get Success?

There was a great philosopher in the world whose name was Socrates. He is considered teacher to Plato. Once a person asked the great philosopher Socrates that what is necessary to get success?

Socrates asked him to meet him the next day at the river. He also said that he will get the same answer. The man was very curious. He spent the night thinking what answer Socrates would give to his question tomorrow. When that person met him near the river the next morning, Socrates asked him to go into the river and measure the depth of the river.

That person went into the river. Socrates also followed him. As soon as the water reached the person’s nose, Socrates came from behind and suddenly dipped his face and head in the water. That person started struggling to get out and breathe, started thrashing his hands. He tried very hard to get out of water but Socrates was a little stronger. He kept that person immersed in water for some time.

After some time Socrates left him and that person quickly took his mouth out of water and breathed quickly. Socrates asked that person – “When you were in water what did you want?” The person said – “I wanted to get out of the water quickly and breathe.”

Socrates said – “This is the answer to your question. You must have wanted success with such a desire that you feel that if you don’t get success then there is nothing in life. Then you will get success definitely.

Moral of the Story- Success is a passion. As you can’t live without breathing, you should value your aim as your life. You will definitely get success.

Practice makes a man perfect

In ancient times, students were used to study by staying in Gurukul (The ancient schools where both theoretical and practical education was given). The children were sent to Gurukul to receive education.  The teacher who used to teach there was called “Guruji.”A student was also sent to Gurukul like everyone else. There he started mingling with his friends in the ashram. But he was very weak in studies. He could hardly understand anything that the teacher taught. Everyone else makes fun of him. He was very sad due to it.  All his friends passed but he failed.

Guruji was also very worried about him. He tried his best to teach him. Eventually, the Guruji  also gave up and told him that he had tried everything. Now it would be appropriate that he should not waste his time here. Guru ji asked him to go to his home and help the family in work!

The student was very sad! He wanted to study but he had to leave because he could not understand! He was cursing his fate! He felt as if God had not written studies in his fate! He cried a lot before leaving Gurukul! He felt that when other children are studying then why he can’t study! But after Guru ji’s decision, it seemed as if his castle of dreams was destroyed!

There were no more sources of transportation in the ancient times like todays. It was afternoon. He was walking to his home. On the way, he started feeling thirsty. Looking around, he found that some women were filling water from a well at a short distance. He went to the well.

There were marks on the stones due to the movement of the rope. He was curious to know about it. So he asked the women how you made these marks! So a woman replied that we did not make these marks. Such marks have been made on solid stones due to the repeated movement of this soft rope while drawing water.

This replied shocked the student. He started thinking.  He was seemed deeply inspired with the answer. He thought that when deep marks can be made on a solid stone due to the repeated movement of a soft rope, then why I can’t acquire knowledge through continuous practice.

He came back to Gurukul with a lot of enthusiasm and asked Guru ji to give him a chance! Guru ji saw a different sparkle and enthusiasm in his eyes! He agreed to the student! That student worked tirelessly. The teacher was also happy and supported him a lot. After a few years, this same slow-witted boy became a great scholar of Sanskrit grammar. Who composed big texts! A shloka became very famous

“Kart kart abhyaas ke jadamati hot sujaan rasri aavat jaat te sil par parat nishan”

(Practice turns a fool into a wise as the running rope makes its mark on a stone tablet)

Moral of the Story- Practice is the key to success in every field! With hard work and continuous practice, success will be at your doorstep! It is not right to rely on luck!
